Light Maze is an immersive light installation based and further developed on the experience with yǔzhòu light maze, which we were commissioned originally for the Luneng Sanya Bay Light and Art Festival in Hainan, China. While yǔzhòu light maze was an indoor installation basically operating at night with artificial lighting, Light Maze is a 24h outdoor light installation adding a unique iridescent cosmos in the sunlight to the original design.
The installation, premiered in Brussels (Belgium) and Seville (Spain), consists of a maze based on a triangular geometry and built of 2,20m high panels of acrylic glass. A dichroic film glued to one side of the acrylic glass converts the panels in semi-transparent and reflects or shifts the light rays along the entire colour range of a rainbow while the spectator moves in the installation.
On the other side of each acrylic glass sheet, a specifically created pattern of grooves is mechanically carved in. During night, the grooves are illuminated by powerful LED rails with subtly shifting colours located in the inferior and superior framework and submerge the spectator in a forest of light. The reflections and mirroring effects of the panels convert the interior in an infinity room – a unique cosmos of overlapping light patterns and constantly changing colours.
The installation, currently consisting of 72 panels, will be continuously enlarged in the future and can be rented.
